Team Miro

About

Team Miro is an exciting place to be! It has a strong focus on seeking out the passions that each child has and developing skills and attributes that enhance learning. The HEART values are integral to everything we do. As a team we have embraced BYOD, with more than 85% of senior students bringing their own device to school. Learning assistants support learning needs across the team. This ensures that children are well supported in their learning. You will find that once your child reaches the senior school, Outdoor Education, becomes a big focus. Camps and trips visiting experts or venues to enhance learning plays an authentic and important part of the learning process as a senior student. We want our children to have every opportunity to be excited and engaged so that they can be the best learner they can be.

Team Miro is a Year 4 - 6 team consisting of four learning spaces. Three of the spaces are collaborative learning spaces where two teachers work together with two groups of children in the one learning area. The other space is a single teaching space and has the one teacher working with a single group of children.

In Dudley we have our Year 5 and 6 children with Jan Thompson and Jen Bourne as their teachers. Jan is the Leader of Learning / Leader of Management for Team Miro. She is our IT Infrastructure Teacher and works with the HEARTbeat Media Team. She also has a strong interest in the environment and sustainability and is one of our Children’s University Co-ordinators. Jan and Jen both have a passion for eLearning and take Digikids. Jen has a passion for Maths and leads this across the team. She also leads our Uniform Strategic Team.

In Awa we have our Year 5 and 6 children with Belinda Walsh and Adam Hastilow as their teachers. Belinda has a passion for music and leads this throughout the school. She is our Leader of HEART, leading wellbeing and PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) across the school. Adam has a passion for any type of sport and you will often see him out on the field during the lunch hour involving children in some sort of game. He is one of our Children’s University Co-ordinators and is also our Staff BOT representative.

In Kuaka we have Year 4 and 5 children with Angela Willans (Miss Angela) as their teacher. She runs our Culture Club and organises our Miro Merit Cup. Angela is passionate about children and loves finding out what makes each child tick. Keep an eye on her as you might just see her dancing in the playground!

In Roto we have our Year 4 and 5 children with Scott Bradley and Sally Pannell as their teachers. Scott is passionate about sport and leads this across the senior school. He leads our Bike Track Strategic Team. He also runs our Chess Club, and organises our PALs (Physical Activity Leaders). Sally has a passion for music and loves to sing. She also runs our Guitar Club, where children have the opportunity to play an instrument and she is the School DJ at our discos. If you pass her class….you might just hear her.

Tracey Mora is the Deputy Principal/SENCO of the senior school. She is experienced in leading the senior side of a school and loves to be involved in whatever the children are doing and learning. One of her main roles is looking after the pastoral care needs of the children across the team. She works with the Peer Mediators, Student Council and the HEARTbeat Media Team. You will often see her with children somewhere.

Gieve Slade works two days a week releasing teachers across the team. She has been in Team Miro since 2019, having previously worked in the Year 3/4 “Team Rata” many years ago so she’s excited to be working in Team Miro with previous colleagues. If you see a teacher walking around with a ukulele, that is probably her - ready to jam to some funky beats!
