Team Kahikatea

About

Team Kahikatea are the Year 2 and 3 team at Banks Avenue School. We have four teachers in our team who are all very experienced in teaching at this level and one beginning teacher who is looking forward to starting her teaching journey with us.  We know how important it is to continue the great learning the children have been doing as Year 1's so there is a huge focus on literacy and numeracy. We have an understanding of other cultures in our school and work hard to ensure the children's language and culture is valued.

Over the last couple of years we have been developing the way we work collaboratively and are experimenting with new spaces as we move towards our new school.  We have four teachers working in collaborative spaces and one teacher in a single cell to cater for those children who are not ready to work in a big space. Teachers plan together to ensure that children get the best possible outcomes.

Children in this team are also taught to:
  • be creative and to ask questions.
  • be literate, numerate and competent ICT users.
  • be responsible for themselves, their belongings and their learning.
  • treat others how they want to be treated.
  • join in and work together.
