Homework Policy

Rational:

Homework is a valid extension of learning processes and will benefit the child in developing useful skills and attributes.

 Purpose:

  1. To reinforce work done in the classroom.
  2. To provide opportunities for parent involvement in school learning programmes.
  3. To encourage children to develop independent work skills, habits and attitudes.
  4. To encourage the use of resources, both within and outside the school.
  5. To provide a form of feedback to parents about school learning programmes.

Guidelines:

  1.
Work will be related to current school programmes.
  2. Homework should be set regularly.
  3. The work set should be appropriate and purposeful, and within the child’s capabilities.
  4. The amount of homework should be able to be completed within a time suitable for the age and ability of the child.
  5. Every effort should be made to enable the child to understand clearly what is required.
  6. Adequate resources should be available at school to enable the child to carry out the task.
  7. All homework set should be monitored and evaluated by the teacher.
  8. Parents will be asked to be supportive but not directly responsible for fulfilling homework requirements.
