Rational:
Homework is a valid extension of learning processes and will benefit the child in developing useful skills and attributes.
Purpose:
- To reinforce work done in the classroom.
- To provide opportunities for parent involvement in school learning programmes.
- To encourage children to develop independent work skills, habits and attitudes.
- To encourage the use of resources, both within and outside the school.
- To provide a form of feedback to parents about school learning programmes.
Guidelines:
- Work will be related to current school programmes.
- Homework should be set regularly.
- The work set should be appropriate and purposeful, and within the child’s capabilities.
- The amount of homework should be able to be completed within a time suitable for the age and ability of the child.
- Every effort should be made to enable the child to understand clearly what is required.
- Adequate resources should be available at school to enable the child to carry out the task.
- All homework set should be monitored and evaluated by the teacher.
- Parents will be asked to be supportive but not directly responsible for fulfilling homework requirements.
